Born and raised in Austin, Texas, now residing in Chicago, Illinois, Ruby Bean has been creating with all types of media since childhood. They now have a BFA in illustration from Columbia College Chicago, where they served as the 2024 Creative Director of Manifest, Editorial Illustrator for The Chronicle, and a Maker at the Makerspace on campus. Their work often reflects political moments and/ or family relations merging with nature. Recently, they have started a journey to teach younger artists to step into their artistic shoes, teaching art lessons. Ruby Bean started learning how to paint murals by assisting artist Cheri Lee Charlon on a handful of projects, from working with local Chicago news outlets such as InTheseTimes, to assisting Moroccan artist Bakr, to their most recent assist, Curious Bunny Mural by Cheri Lee Charlton. Their own murals are inspired by the rich history of Chicago and their childhood home, Austin, Texas.
